Frequently Asked Questions

Q.Is my hair suitable for Yuko Straightening ?

A. Yuko is suitable for most hair types, extra caution is required with highlighted and damaged hair. If the damage is too severe Yuko may not be suitable and Yuko Anti - Frizz may be suggested as an alternative.

Q. How does the Yuko Treatment differ from Brazilian/Keratin Treatments ?

A. Yuko is a permanent straightening treatment that changes the internal structure of the hair. The Brazilian blow dry coats the hair with Keratin to smooth and needs to be repeated every 3 months.  If you already have the Brazilian Treatment in your hair you will need to wait a minimum of 3 months before applying the Yuko Treatment.

Q. How long does the straightening process take?

A. Depending on length, thickness and previous treatments, anything from 3.5 - 6.5 hours.

Q. How soon after the Yuko Treatment can I wash my hair ?

A. Depending on the solution used either 24 or 48 hours.

Q. How long will my Yuko Treatment last ?

A. Hair treated with Yuko will remain straight permanently. Generally clients re-do their Yuko every 6 - 12 months depending on how well they are able to manage the re-growth.

Q. Will the Yuko Treatment damage my hair ?

A. No. The Yuko not only straightens hair but will also re-texturize creating a healthy shine.

Q. How difficult is the Yuko Treatment to maintain at home ?

A. Easy! Simply wash and blow dry your hair and generally the hair will sit poker straight without the use of irons. For a super glassy shine irons may be used but at a maximum of 180 degrees.

Q. How soon after the Yuko Treatment can I colour my hair ?

A.  Colour can be applied a minimum of 2 weeks pre or post Yuko treatment.

Q. Do I need to use special haircare products after the treatment ?

A. Yuko provide a product range designed to keep your treatment in optimal condition. Alternatively there are many other products that can be used, this can be discussed during your treatment.

Yuko Straightening Homecare

  • Soak entire hair to rinse out oils, dirt and styling products etc.

  • Shampoo the hair using a Yuko or other sulphate free shampoo. Remember that shampoo is designed for the scalp and not the hair, focus the product in this area. Rinse thoroughly and repeat.

  • Squeeze the excess water from the hair and then apply your treatment. This should be applied to the ends of the hair first working your way up (not on the scalp). Leave the treatment in for the required time and then rinse.

  • The treatment should not be rinsed entirely from the hair try to leave around 10% in.

  • Squeeze the excess water and gently wrap in a towel. Do not rub the hair as this may cause damage.

  • If desired add your protein spray or other nourishing protection.

  • Always (where possible) dry your hair with a hairdryer focusing more on the scalp areas and blowing downwards.

  • Try to avoid leaving the hair wet as moisture left in the hair can cause frizz to return over time.

  • Finish with a light oil shine spray if required.
